Why can wedding videos cost so much?
A typical 4 hour package yields approximately 30/32 hours of work. The time spent setting up, shooting the event and tearing down equals about 5 to 6 hours. The edit process involves ingesting the raw footage and creating back-ups, editing (video, audio, music, color correction and effects), conversion to DVD and creating the DVD artwork for the cover and disc's equals another 24 plus hours. Not to mention the expensive equipment we operate, computer maintenance, software updates, new plugins. etc. Do you have insurance? Yes, we carry General Liability Insurance with Errors and Omissions, Business Auto and Equipment Coverage. What kind of video equipment to you use? Professional Canon, Sony and Panasonic HD cameras. Lowel & Litepanels 'on camera' lights. For audio capture, we use Sony, Sennheiser and Samson wireless mics and Audio Technica shotgun mics for natural and ambient sound. We edit using Adobe Professional CC products, Boris & Pixelan Effects software, Blackmagic Design for HD ingestion and playback. Nvidia CUDA Graphics cards and Raid-0 Terabyte Drives. How many weddings have you shot? Over the years, we have produced well over 700 weddings! |
Can I buy the raw footage?
Yes. The Wedding Novella package has an option to purchase the raw footage for a small fee. The documentary style weddings typically do not have any footage left over. Who will videotape my wedding? I will. I do not hire outside videographers to shoot in my place. It is not my practice and never will be. This is the fastest way to develop a bad reputation should something go wrong. I've heard many horror stories from video companies who have hired outside videographers claiming to be good shooters, only to receive footage that is completely unacceptable. There is no way to recover from this situation. In all my years of shooting weddings, I have never missed a wedding for any reason. I have been ill, but I still shot the wedding. What if you absolutely cannot shoot my wedding? I have been working with an individual for over 12 years. He has always been my 'second camera' operator. If for some unforeseeable reason I cannot shoot a wedding, I would hire him to take my place. I trust him explicitly to do a good job for you. In a two camera shoot situation, since he is there, I will hire another camera operator to work with him. That is acceptable, since he has control over the production. His abilities are similar to mine and I am confident he will do a great job in my absence. Do you require your clients to provide meals? It is customary to provide meals to the vendors. However, it is not mandatory. If a meal is provided, it is greatly appreciated. Do you charge a travel fee? No travel fees are required for Los Angeles, Ventura or Santa Barbara Counties. Orange and San Diego Counties do require a travel fee that is negotiable. Destination weddings require a per diem, hotel and other travel related costs. This will be thoroughly covered prior to finalizing the contract. When will I receive my wedding video? The Wedding Novella is being delivered to our clients within 30 to 45 days (but could take longer). The documentary style weddings are taking 3 to 6 months to complete. If your package requires us to receive photographs, music or other elements to complete the editing, we would need those items no later than 30 days after the wedding. These items are crucial to us completing your video and delivering it in a timely manner. Videos are not edited in the same order as they were shot. History has taught us that busy clients tend not to supply us with the necessary items to begin editing. It is not uncommon for us to edit videos for example that were shot in November of 2013, versus a video shot in August of 2013. The November client provided all their items, whereas our August client did not provide any items at all. This will be discussed thoroughly during our planning meeting. |
