What you should know about wedding videography

The wedding video industry has seen the quality of cameras jump leaps and bounds where capturing great images is no longer a problem. Today's high definition cameras can be purchased for as little as $300.00. They have the ability to capture weddings in stunning HD, but that's just not enough. Shooting a wedding with a camera that produces great images is one thing, knowing what to shoot and how to shoot it, is entirely a different matter. That ability and knowledge is what sets us apart. Many couples ask, why can't uncle Bob shoot our wedding, he has a new camera he'd like to try it out? No disrespect to uncle Bob, but would you really trust your wedding memories to a novice? Have you seen uncle Bob's home movies lately? It goes without saying, "amateurs who shoot wedding videos create amateur looking videos". This is one of the reason's why wedding videos have a bad rap. Another thing to consider is sound. Sound is one of the most difficult tasks to capture, without good sound quality, your video is a bust! Photographers are wonderful, and they will always be around to document your wedding, but photographs only tell part of the story. They miss the cheer and the clapping of your guests as you're announced 'husband and wife'. They miss the heartfelt speech by one of the bridal party members. They miss the music that you danced to and they miss the frantic rush of women reaching for the bouquet. Only video can capture all this and more.
Don't be fooled by extremely low prices

In this business, you truly get what you pay for! That saying has never been more true than in the wedding video industry. When the digital video market came of age, it brought with it an influx of inexpensive video cameras. It became easier and more affordable for anyone wanting to become a 'wedding videographer'. For most, they have a regular Monday through Friday job and to them this means 'extra cash' on the weekend. They have no idea the responsibility they are taking on. Suddenly, amateurs and hobbyists could advertise their wedding videos at extremely low prices. At the very least you should be skeptical and red flags should be going up! This is really when you need to ask a lot of questions. To give you an example, I was online recently and saw a video companies wedding rates. They were offering an 8 hour day, with 2 people and 2 cameras (in HIgh Definition), a two hour completed wedding video, along with a highlights reel and 3 copies, all for $695.00! What is wrong with this picture? A competent and trustworthy wedding video company would charge a minimum of $2,500.00 for that caliber of service. Be an informed bride. Remember the old adage, if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.
